Spring containers

Last week I revamped the containers for Spring with some miniature Irises, daffodils and gorgeous blue pansies.

As you can see I’ve left the winter heathers in place, slotting the Spring colour in around them. The blue pansies are called ‘Karma Blue Butterfly’, the daffodils are the ever popular miniature narcissus ‘Tete a Tete’ and the Irises are ‘Joyce’. I prepare for the Spring containers in autumn by sowing several batches of different colours of pansy and planting bulbs in pots. Then around Christmas I bring some of the daffs into the (unheated) greenhouse to bring them on, the intention being to extend the season of the daffs, removing spent ones and replacing them as we move through the season. The miniature Irises unfortunately don’t last very long, but they’re so gorgeous I can’t resist them.
