If at first you don’t succeed…

This week we’ve taken the plunge and replaced the sickly yews. Last week I took a road trip to visit several local nurseries offering yews and fell in love with Hedging Plants Direct over in Dedham – the plants were all really good looking and they were pot grown (or at least grown on in pots) with healthy looking rootballs. We went for smaller plants this time as you generally get a greater chance of happy trees when they go in small.

Newly planted yew trees

The older ones which looked like they might scrape through have been moved to a clearing in a woodland spot just to give them one last opportunity to thrive. If everyone could keep their fingers crossed for our little newbies I would be grateful!

  1. Fingers and toes crossed 😉

  2. Hello Libby,
Out of interest, did you find out what had done for the old ones? Rot? Drought?

    • Nothing conclusive – I think it was a combination. It started going badly for them when they arrived with their rootballs bone dry and went downhill from there.
